Back in November, Coralive chose our island to launch 5 rope nurseries that have had a promising start in their first three months of operation, yielding encouraging results in coral restoration efforts. With an impressive average survival rate of 82.3%.
However, not all corals performed equally well. The Acropora sp. 11 cf. granulosa exhibited the highest mortality rates, likely due to factors such as competition for space, disease, or environmental stress. On the other hand, Pocillopora meandrina stood out as the most resilient, with an outstanding 100% survival rate, demonstrating the adaptability and hardiness of this species in the nursery setup.

Despite some challenges, the nurseries have shown positive growth overall. Across all five nurseries, corals exhibited an average growth increase of 117%. This growth reflects the success of the nursery design, and the nurturing conditions provided over the past few months, suggesting that the restoration efforts are heading in the right direction.
Since November 2024, 525 corals have died, with likely causes including competition, disease, and stress associated with transplanting.
In conclusion, the first monitoring phase for the Feridhoo rope nurseries has been a success!
