Since we began monitoring the water temperature around our coral nurseries back in November, we've been keeping a close eye on the changes in the underwater climate—and it’s heating up!

March and April are officially the hottest months around our reef sites in Feridhoo. With the sun blazing and the ocean soaking it all in, these two months have delivered the highest water temperatures we've recorded so far.

📅 March 9th stole the spotlight with a scorching peak temperature of 31.2°C! Meanwhile, the monthly average highest mean temperature reached 30.1°C.

Even the coolest days weren’t exactly chilly. The lowest mean temperature—still a warm 29.4°C—was recorded on March 11th and 12th.

💡 It’s not just the heat that’s making waves. Light intensity has been equally impressive. The average Lux reading in March stood at 2346.8, with an astonishing peak of 5336.2 Lux on March 13th. That’s some serious sunlight powering through the waves—vital for coral growth but also something we need to keep tracking to understand its impact on marine ecosystems.

These insights are part of our ongoing commitment to monitor the conditions around our coral nurseries and ensure that we’re giving nature the best possible chance to thrive—even in the face of a changing climate.

Stay tuned for more updates as we dive deeper into the data and continue working to protect the vibrant underwater life of The Maldives. 🪸🌊

Take a look at the accompanying graphs that illustrate the average temperature and light intensity for the month.
